As mentioned yesterday on facebook and twitter, I was fortunate enough to be invited up to Xili Golf Club China for a round of golf with students.
I hadn’t been up to Xili for a while and I thought it was worth mentioning here that their course condition is the best that I have seen it in and would recommend you take advantage of this if you get the opportunity of playing there.
The greens although not lightening fast were smooth and very true. I can also add that as I spent plenty of time in bunkers especially in the first few holes that the bunkers are in excellent state although I would recommend that you avoid bunkers at all opportunity for your scores sake unless you’re Phil Mickelson.
Every time I play at Xili I am reminded of the importance of course management. The course is not at all long and blasting driver everywhere is both not necessary and also not particularly rewarding as you are left with many fiddly half shots to the green. The bunkering is also set up well and playing fairway woods or irons from the tee often leaves you a better approaching distance to the green. That said if you are handy with your wedges then this may not pose such a great problem.
I met with Mr. Kai Smit General Manager at breakfast. He is always very hospitable and is a fine asset to the club.
